Study next-generation 9-1-1

4 comments:

  1. Sent the following to Reps Steenberg, Moore, and Person:

Missoula County supports House Joint Resolution 7 - Study next-generation 9-1-1, before House Federal Relations, Energy, and Telecommunications this afternoon. The existing network that 9-1-1 was built on is no longer capable of providing the level of services our citizens expect. Montana was at the forefront of establishing state-wide 9-1-1 service and ensuring all of our citizens have access to this critical service. Next generation 9-1-1 will allow citizens to send texts, pictures, and videos to public safety answering points (PSAPs) and responders in the field through robust private phone and internet networks already in existence. In order to get this information to our PSAPs we must have accurate mapping, equipment (on both the provider and the PSAP sides) and knowledge of how the network should function. The planning effort needed to accomplish this is what HJ 7 addresses, allowing Montana to join other states around the country as they plan for this new technology driven world. HJ 7 will ensure all Montana counties provide needed services to their citizens, not just those in heavily populated areas. Please support HJ 7.
    Respectfully,
Vickie Zeier on behalf of the Missoula County Commissioners
