    Hi Tom:

Missoula County supports HB 132. We believe it could help Missoula's program.
These monies help pay for the necessary education and enforcement efforts that communities have built over the years to fight the tragic losts and costs due to DUI's.
Funds for counties that have these programs come from fees paid by convicted traffic offenders including DUI's, yet the revenues have been dropping in recent years.
Any unallocated funds at the end of the year are best put right into service in local communities to help them protect their citizens against the losses caused by DUI's.
Let me know if you need any other information. Vickie

  2. Missoula Forum MUSAP Coordinator Brandee Tyree:

According to the 2104 Montana Prevention Needs Assessment, Missoula County 8th, 10th, and 12th graders report that:
5% have driven a car or other vehicle when having had alcohol
22% have rode in a car with a driver that has had alcohol
Due to reduced DUI Task Force funding in recent years this has caused a significant reduction in funding to support underage drinking/driving and/or distracted driving prevention efforts.
There currently in Missoula County is no specific funding mechanism for underage drinking and driving prevention efforts and/or enforcement.
Additional funding would allow for the opportunity to educate young people about the dangers and tragedies of drinking and driving, while supporting and collaborating with the current efforts of the Missoula County DUI Task Force.
