SB 165

Dick Barrett

Increase penalty for failure to comply with Montana's seat belt laws

  1. Pamela Buckman on Jan. 27, 2015: Seatbelt fines go into the State general fund.

  2. Senior Community Health Specialist/DUI Task Force Coordinator/Buckle-Up Montana Coordinator at Missoula City-County Health Department on Jan. 27, 2015:

"The intent of the proposed increased seat belt fine from $20 to $100 is to increase seat belt usage vrs. increased revenue. According to MDT, over half of all passenger vehicle occupants killed in crashes in Montana from 2004 through 2013 were not wearing a seat belt. Unrestrained occupants are nearly 6 times more likely to suffer a fatal or serious injury when involved in a crash."
